Painted Paper Floral Collage with Joan Waites

Joan Waites is a local children’s book author and artist. Within her artwork she uses a range of techniques, collage being one of them. Join Joan and use the art of cut paper collage, using hand painted papers, to create abstracted floral filled vases. Flowers are always inspiring, and their shapes and colors can be brought to life in so many ways, join us to discover this technique for yourself.

All materials needed will be provided:

Strathmore printmaking paper

Tracing paper

PVA glue

Extra acrylic paint and Neocolor crayons

Paper towels, cups for water and glue

Flower and vase reference photos (feel free to bring your own to create from too!)

Student Supply List:

Pencil with soft lead (2B or softer)

Small pair of sharp scissors

Matte acrylic paint, one color for background plus white (any brand as long as it is matte finish. *Instructor will also bring some to share.)

Bone folder or spoon

1 soft, flat watercolor brush (half inch or larger)

1 or 2 small flat brushes to use for glue

Craft mat

*If you would like to bring your own, several colors of Caran D’ache Neocolor 2 water-soluble crayons or Marabu Crayons, (assorted colors plus black and white.) Instructor will also bring crayons to share.
