Visiting with Santa PoPPoP
Savage Mill visitors rave about their children’s visits with Santa PoPPoP and Mrs. Claus. We wanted to find out what all the fuss was about so we decided to pay him a visit. Listen in on our conversation.

What’s been going on at the North Pole this year?

We’ve been busy as usual building toys and inventing fun things. December is also a month of merriment. It’s been unusually snowy (nearly 90 inches so far this year compared to an annual average of 60 inches).

What’s the best part of being Santa?

Meeting and spending time with children and adults of all ages, colors, sizes, shapes, and backgrounds.

What’s the most difficult part of the job?

When someone tells me that they’ve lost someone close to them or that they, a family member, or a friend is ill.

Where is Mrs. Claus on Sundays?

Mrs. Claus is very busy in December – wrapping presents, cooking, baking, meeting/greeting friends, being joyful, and helping around the shop.

Do you have any children of your own?

Yes, Mrs. Claus and I have three children and nine grandchildren.

How is Rudolf getting along with the other reindeer?

These days Rudolf gets along very well with the other reindeer and loves playing all the reindeer games.  Rudolph has become the second fastest runner (behind Dasher) and is the best at Capture the Flag.  Rudolph also likes helping me with the daily Sudoku puzzle.

How did you decide to come spend time at Savage Mill?

To me there’s only one other place as special as The Historic Savage Mill and that’s the North Pole.

Do you have a funny or touching story about your time as Santa at Savage Mill?

One Saturday I witnessed a fellow and their wife standing near the Christmas trees when out of nowhere their whole family surprised them with a visit, some of them even coming from out of town!

How do I know if I’ve been naughty or nice?

Listen to your heart, weigh your deeds, and know your intentions and resolve going forward.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Knowing how much laughter, hope, joy, and love exists in this world warms my heart.  It’s wonderful to contemplate how contagious each of those are!

We know you and the elves are so busy right now, Santa. Thank you for taking the time to visit us on the weekends. Your commitment and care awakens the wonder and excitement inside us all!
