Bollman Bridge Elementary School Art Show: Young Artists in Process

Savage Mill - 8600 Foundry St, Savage, MD

This exhibition celebrates the creativity and curiosity of the 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade artists at Bollman Bridge Elementary School, highlighting the importance of artistic process—experimenting, observing, revising, and discovering along the way. Throughout the year, students explored materials, color, and creative problem-solving while developing their own artistic voices. Third-grade artists created playful exaggerated animal portraits using recycled and layered materials, transforming bits of paper and foam into expressive creatures full of personality. Fourth-grade artists explored color theory and color mixing through vibrant abstract paintings inspired by Alma Thomas, studying how repeated marks and thoughtful color choices can create rhythm and movement. Fifth-grade artists investigated relief printmaking, carving designs and experimenting with color relationships to produce bold printed compositions. Together, these works celebrate experimentation, imagination, and the many ways young artists learn through making. Opening Reception: Friday, April 17, 6-7:30 pm Welcoming remarks by Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball (invited) Councilwoman Christiana Mercer Rigby (invited), Bollman Bridge Elementary School Principal Connie Fowlkes, and art teachers Sophie Cochran and Ray Henry. Featuring special guests Bollman Bridge Elementary School student artists, parents, teachers and staff. Join us to see the talent in our community. No rsvp necessary. On display April 17 - May […]

Dreamcatcher Making Workshop

Alumia Design Studio - New Weave Building

Weave your own Dreamcatcher ✨ Learn its sacred meaning & craft a unique piece with feathers, beads & intention in Alumia Design Studio Step into the sacred tradition of Dreamcatcher making, rooted in the wisdom of Native American culture. Dreamcatchers were originally crafted by the Ojibwe people, woven as protective talismans to catch bad dreams and negative energy in their webs, while allowing peaceful visions to flow through. In this workshop, you’ll be guided through the old ways of creating your own dreamcatcher, working with a large collection of feathers, beads, and natural materials. As you weave and adorn your dreamcatcher, you’ll bring forth your own energy and intentions, creating a truly personal piece to take home—one that is both beautiful and spiritually meaningful. This workshop takes place in Alumia Design Studio, a unique and magical space nestled inside our handmade jewelry shop. The studio is filled with creative energy and the spirit of craft, where many kinds of workshops come to life: from jewelry-making to crystal wire trees, to calming zen gardens.
