Over the past week, spring has exploded in a riot of color, with bright greens, pinks, and yellows, ushering in the month of April. Inside the New Weave Building at Savage Mill, a similar reawakening is about to take place, as the Bollman Bridge Elementary School Art Show returns with works by budding 3rd to 5th grade artists.
An annual highlight of the partnership between Savage Mill and Bollman Bridge Elementary School, this show is geared towards promoting the artistic talents of students within the local community. Organized by Arts Educators Sophie Cochran and Ray Henry and facilitated by Family and Community Engagement Liaison Danielle Gofstein, the show is a fitting platform to celebrate young talent right in our backyard.

Third-grade artists created playful exaggerated animal portraits using recycled and layered materials, transforming bits of paper and foam into expressive creatures full of personality.

Fourth-grade artists explored color theory and color mixing through vibrant abstract paintings inspired by Alma Thomas, studying how repeated marks and thoughtful color choices can create rhythm and movement.

Fifth-grade artists investigated relief printmaking, carving designs and experimenting with color relationships to produce bold printed compositions.
The public is invited to join us for the opening reception on Friday, April 17, 6-7:30 pm with remarks by special guests from Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball’s office, Howard County Councilwoman Christiana Rigby, and Bollman Bridge Elementary School Principal Connie Fowlkes. The exhibition is on display through May 13, providing ample opportunity to appreciate the vibrant, creative artwork while passing through the New Weave building on the way to dine, shop, or enjoy an experience at Savage Mill.
