Event Series “Let It Shine” Art Show

“Let It Shine” Art Show

Savage Mill 8600 Foundry St, Savage, MD

Whether it’s the iridescent glaze on a well-formed pot, the glint of glass in a mosaic, or the sun setting over a hazy field, each artist in "Let it Shine" transfers a bit of their creativity, their inner glow, themselves to their work shared with us in this show. Nancy McIntosh works in Raku, a mesmerizing process of flame firing she learned when she first fell in love with clay as a medium. Nancy creates the form and the glazes, but she never knows the exact outcome until the piece survives the fire. Lee Foran fell in love with mosaics while working as a decorator; soon, her clients recognized her talent and began asking Lee to incorporate her mosaics into their homes. Finally, Lee turned the tables and gave herself full time to the art of 3D mosaic. Lisa Mitchell creates representational paintings, paying homage to the beautiful effect of light on the environment and encouraging those who view her work to slow down and spend time imagining themselves in such a place or perhaps become reacquainted with a familiar setting. The show runs through October 9, 2022.

Event Series “New Year’s Evolutions” Art Show

“New Year’s Evolutions” Art Show

Savage Mill 8600 Foundry St, Savage, MD

“New Year’s Evolutions” features the artwork of three local artists who have burst into the new year with stories to tell. Join JoEllen Murphy, Bonnie Zuckerman, & Beth MacNeil Stinson on January 15th for their Artist Reception and hear more of their stories. Painter JoEllen Murphy works in oil, cold wax, and pastel. She credits her loose, impressionistic style to her Plein air experience. A Pastel Journal article describes JoEllen this way: “Punctuated by bursts of color, JoEllen Murphy’s paintings balance tranquility with lively vibrance. She captures landscapes, garden scenes, and architectural details with a style that’s both painterly and confident.” Bonnie Zuckerman paints one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces using her signature stained-glass effect. Each painted vessel offers a glimpse into a world straight from Bonnie’s imagination, a world populated with her favorite things; birds, bees, whales, flowers, fish, & fairytale landscapes. The story continues when you turn her pieces over. Beth MacNeil Stinson, a mixed media artist, combines ink, pencil, charcoal, watercolor, and printmaking to create intricate, intimate drawings. Beth’s use of natural shapes, textures, and patterns holds space for the viewer to insert their own story. Join the gallery for an Artist Reception on Sunday, January 15, 1-4pm. The show […]

“A Taste of Spring” Art Show

Savage Mill 8600 Foundry St, Savage, MD

Opening Reception Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 1-4:00 pm. “A Taste of Spring” is not simply a day on the calendar or the springing ahead of our clocks – it is being surprised by the first yellow-headed daffodil, a certain sweetness to the air, and rediscovering colors hidden too long by winter. Inspired by these changes, the “A Taste of Spring” artists have created their ode to spring – each in her own medium: Rana Geralis: Inspired as a child by the countryside of Virginia bordering the Blue Ridge Mountains, Rana’s love of the outdoors shines through her expressive Plein air work. Jennifer Kahn Barlow: Jennifer’s memories of her food-centric family gatherings continue to feed her muse. She currently seeks inspiration for her delicious oil paintings from local gourmet grocers and pastry shops. Sarah Pick: Glass is the ultimate medium for Sarah. Fascinated by the interplay of light, depth, transparency, and movement, fused glass inspires Sarah’s artistic voice.   Gallery Hours Monday-Tuesday closed Wednesday-Sunday 11:00-6:00

“Ethereal Things” Art Show

Savage Mill 8600 Foundry St, Savage, MD

Using their chosen medium, these artists spin straw into gold to create “Ethereal Things”. Beverley Hunter (Mosaic Artist) is a self-confessed collector of all things bright and shiny. Her superpower is to "see" creatively, which serves her well. A single find can inspire a new mosaic, or a work-in-progress may wait for completion until the exact right piece is found, and so far, it always is. Lisa Mitchell's (Pastel and Oil Painter) slightly overgrown yet unknown paths are oddly familiar and tempt us to follow them in her paintings. Her misty landscapes may unlock a door to our past or provide a window to where we want to be. Lisa's ability to create memories through her paintings is magical. Carlos Zepeda (Jeweler) grew up creating from things nature provided. As a young man in Belize, he collected beautiful pink conch shells discarded by fishermen and created simple shell necklaces on leather cords! Carlos is now a collected jeweler using many exotic stones, silver, and yes, conch. **Opening Reception Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 1-4:00 pm.**

“Curvilinear” Art Show

Savage Mill 8600 Foundry St, Savage, MD

The term "curvilinear" means that a piece is contained by, or consists of, a curved line or lines. Our three featured artists use curvilinear forms in the creation of their beautiful and unique artwork.   Oil painter Antonia Ramis Miguel uses lines, both curved and straight, to create a visual effect that leads her to the actual subject of her amazing paintings.   Fused glass artist Chris Guercio feels that a point (single) plus a line (two points) plus a curve (three points) together provide a quality basis for her exceptional art.   To woodturner Allen Alexopulous, curvilinear invokes a convergence of lines defined by two points and graceful curvatures often called “fair” curves in the world of woodturning. This concept is demonstrated in several of Allen’s fabulous showpieces.   Join us to meet the Artists on Sunday, June 18, from 1-4:00. The Curvilinear Art Show will run through July 16, 2023. Visit the Gallery's website for daily hours; closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
