The Savage Fencing Club will be hosting this exciting, high level foil fencing tournament. The Choco Therapy has been running for 23 years, with the first tournament taking place at the now-defunct Baltimore Fencing Center in Columbia. It draws foil and epee fencers from as far away as New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Georgia, among other states. Fencing will begin around 10:30 a.m. and continue into the late afternoon. Finalists will receive engraved medals, and the top male and female finishers will each receive a box of fine chocolate truffles from Sweet Cascades Chocolatier, located in the Mill. Stop by to watch some of the best fencers in the Middle Atlantic region compete in this original Olympic sport! There is no charge for spectators.

As part of Savage Mill's partnership with Bollman Bridge Elementary School, this collaboration with the art department features work produced by all the students in the 2nd-5th grades. Woven bowls, looms, sugar skulls, wooden Oaxacan animals, and more will be on display throughout the New Weave building during this month-long show. Opening Reception: Thursday, February 15, 6-8 pm (Inclement weather: Thursday, February 22) Welcoming remarks by Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball's office, Councilwoman Christiana Mercer Rigby, Bollman Bridge Elementary School Principal Connie Fowles, and art teacher Ray Henry. Featuring special guests Bollman Bridge Elementary School student artists, parents, teachers and staff. Join us to see the talent in our community. No rsvp necessary. A Silent Reading Party is pretty much what it sounds like! Get in some cozy clothes, grab some snacks, and bring your current read to the bookstore! It's a low-key chance to devote a Sunday afternoon to reading--and if you don't want to speak to anyone, you don't have to. We've got comfy chairs in the bookstore and have also reserved the Savage Mill Commons (the open space just outside our door) just for you! PS: Make a day of it with a candle making class! Candles by Candy, our next door neighbor, is offering $5 off candle classes to silent reading party attendees. The Oakland Mills High School Tri-M Music Honor Society consists of student musicians at the school who seek to support and advocate for music performance within their school and greater community. Students volunteer to help at all concerts and performances throughout the year, providing assistance wherever needed for all high school, middle school or elementary concerts that happen in a given year. They also have academic standards to meet each quarter. The students look forward to sharing their musical passions with the greater community at Savage Mill. The Oakland Mills High School Advanced Guitar Ensemble consists of 14 advanced guitar players within the school, selected through audition only. Each student develops skills on the instrument in both lead and rhythm guitar, and some get opportunities to contribute other musical talents like vocals, drums, etc. They have daily rehearsals during the school day and several concerts within and around the school each year. They are looking forward to sharing their vibe with the community of Savage Mill!
