Take your colored pencil skills and knowledge to the next level as you work on your own drawing project with colored pencil artist Deborah Maklowski at HorseSpirit Arts Gallery in historic Savage Mill. In four 3-hour classes, you will learn how to use design principles to evaluate and make the most creative use of your reference materials, transfer your drawing onto your paper, develop a palette and color plan, and apply multiple layers of translucent color to complete your drawing. “Art of Giving” Art Show

The "Art of Giving" Art Show runs from November 21 through December 31, 2021. Recently our personal worlds have become more compact, while our focus has been drawn “out there,” out beyond our control. This holiday season HorseSpirit Arts Gallery is reigning in our focus by challenging ourselves to focus on the art of giving, to effect change where our hearts live – with family, friends, and our local community. Our family of local artists has been asked to focus on the art of giving as they create new works of art for our 6-week holiday show called “ART of GIVING.” HorseSpirit warmly invites you, our circle of friends, to practice the Art of Giving with us as we put up our Art of Giving Tree to collect food, new clothing, and financial donations for community members around us who are in need. We believe, together, through the art of giving, we can make a change!

It is not HorseSpirit Arts Gallery’s intention to define abstract art for the world, but to introduce you to art that we consider abstract. By abstract art, HorseSpirit Arts Gallery means artwork that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of visual reality, but instead uses shapes, colors, forms, and marks to achieve its effect.In that spirit, we offer you over a hundred pieces of our abstract artwork for your enjoyment. Our hope is that you will find that abstract art can live - happily - with the more traditional art in your home. And we encourage you to explore and decide what abstract art means to you.Our Abstract Focus runs through January 30th (3 weeks), so as art sells, we will add new Artwork to the Gallery. “Winter Renaissance” Art Show

Savage Mill 8600 Foundry St, Savage, MD

February feels like the lowest depth of winter: gloomy, cold, and colorless, while spring seems forever away. Yet February can also be truly beautiful, with days of deep blue skies, rich green conifers casting violet shadows on sun-sparkled snow, and rust-colored grasses adding a warm counterpoint. Those brilliant February days make us feel alive and joyful, aware of the beauty to be found in even the starkest environment. The three of us featured in this “Winter Renaissance” show at HorseSpirit Arts Gallery— Chris Guercio, Deborah Maklowski, and Loreen Western—hope that our collected artwork will remind all who see it that February, in fact, holds great promise. Beneath the ice and snow, the earth is even now preparing for the rebirth of spring, while in the Gallery, we have gathered for you those cornflower blues, shadow violets, and brilliant whites of winter, and mingled them together with the soft peaches, pinks and greens of spring and the rich yellows and reds of a warm summer’s day. And it all starts with February. Opening reception is Sunday, February 6, from 1-4:00. The show runs through March 6.
